The Sanhedrin has officially ruled that the Jewish people are now living in what is considered the prophesied third inheritance of the land of Israel. The first inheritance came under Joshua, and the second followed the Babylonian exile. The current return is seen as the final regathering foretold by the prophets, following the dispersion that began after the Roman destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. This third and final return is believed by many in Jewish tradition to precede the building of the Third Temple, the restoration of the Davidic Kingdom, and the ushering in of the messianic era. As part of this ruling, the Sanhedrin declared Jewish sovereignty over territories within the biblical boundaries of the Promised Land, including areas such as Judea, Samaria, the Jordan Valley, parts of Syria and Lebanon, and the expanse between the Nile and the Euphrates Rivers—territory detailed in Genesis 15:18-21 and Deuteronomy 1:7 and 11:24.
While affirming this sovereignty, the Sanhedrin clarified that it does not reject the current government of Israel but sees it as a potential steppingstone toward a future Torah-based leadership. However, it rejected any declarations of non-Israeli statehood within these borders, emphasizing its role as the legitimate governing body under the Torah and the Noahide laws. The ruling criticized the Palestinian Authority for distributing land to those it labeled as terrorists and asserted that three entities currently lay claim to the land: the Sanhedrin, the State of Israel, and the Palestinian Authority. The Sanhedrin urged the people of Israel to affirm this sovereignty publicly, though it acknowledged that the final division of land must await the prophetic allocation by tribal identity, as outlined in Ezekiel. They also reiterated the biblical law from Leviticus 25:23 that the land ultimately belongs to God and cannot be permanently sold, as its stewardship is divinely ordained—with the Levites being the exception, as their inheritance is in the service of the Temple.
