Satanic Temple Opens New Abortion Clinic

Jun 13, 2025

The Satanic Temple (TST) is set to open its third telehealth abortion facility—this one in Maine—on June 14, which also happens to be President Donald Trump’s birthday. Operating under TST Health, the group frames its abortion services as a religious ritual and plans to provide chemical abortion prescriptions via mail, with clients only paying a $91 pharmacy fee to Honeybee Health. The clinic bears the provocative name, The President’s Yuge Most Beautiful Tremendous Satanic Abortion Clinic, following previous openings in New Mexico and Virginia. According to TST Executive Director Erin Helian, the launch is meant to symbolically honor “freedom and the fundamental right to choose” while mocking pro-life efforts. Helian pointed to the closures of many abortion clinics after the 2022 Dobbs decision and expressed TST’s goal of expanding access wherever possible.

Pro-life advocates and medical professionals, however, are raising serious concerns about the risks tied to unsupervised, at-home chemical abortions. Dr. Donna Harrison of the American Association of Pro-life OBGYNs warns that mifepristone—the abortion drug used—has led to severe complications, including sepsis and undetected ectopic pregnancies. Critics argue that the deregulation of abortion pills and the absence of basic medical screenings, like ultrasounds or follow-up visits, prioritizes access over women’s safety. Furthermore, some warn that easy access to abortion pills online could enable coercion by abusers or traffickers. Personal testimonies, such as that of Elizabeth Gillette—who described a traumatic experience involving intense bleeding and the shock of seeing a formed baby after taking abortion pills—underscore the potential for physical and emotional harm. While TST frames its efforts as a defense of reproductive rights, opponents view the initiative as a dangerous and irreverent affront to life and truth.
