Saudi Arabia Funds Hajj for Terrorist Families

Jun 30, 2025

In a controversial move, Saudi Arabia has sponsored 1,000 Palestinian family members—specifically those related to terrorists classified as "Martyrs, prisoners, and wounded"—to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. This gesture, framed by Palestinian Authority officials and Saudi state media as a demonstration of "loyalty" and "constant sponsorship," has raised serious concerns about the Kingdom's true stance on terrorism. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas publicly thanked the Saudi leadership for their support, hailing it as a generous and symbolic act of solidarity with those who carried out attacks against Israel.

The move appears to contradict speculation that Saudi Arabia may normalize relations with Israel under frameworks like the Abraham Accords. Instead, it signals continued ideological alignment with Palestinian resistance narratives, including honoring individuals involved in deadly acts of terror. One of the recipients of this royal favor was Saif Abu Qandil, whose brother, Fatah terrorist Yusuf Abu Qandil, murdered an Israeli civilian in 2004. Official PA TV emphasized that such gestures reflect the Kingdom’s enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause and its reverence for those who have “sacrificed” in the conflict with Israel.
