Selling Sunlight From Space?

Dec 29, 2025

A California-based startup, Reflect Orbital, has sparked global controversy with a proposal to “sell sunlight” by deploying massive reflective mirrors in low Earth orbit. The company plans to launch experimental satellites as early as 2026 that would redirect sunlight onto targeted areas of Earth during nighttime hours, potentially illuminating regions miles wide with light reportedly brighter than a full moon. While marketed as a way to extend daylight, boost agriculture, and enhance solar energy production, the proposal envisions as many as 4,000 orbital mirrors by decade’s end—an idea that has alarmed astronomers, environmental scientists, and ethicists alike.

Critics warn the consequences could be irreversible. Intentionally illuminating the night sky threatens astronomical research, disrupts wildlife and human circadian rhythms, creates aviation hazards, and worsens the already dangerous congestion of Earth’s orbit. Beyond technical concerns lies a deeper issue: authority. Experts note that a single private company, with regulatory approval, could fundamentally alter a shared global resource—the natural night sky—for all humanity. For prophecy watchers, this echoes a broader pattern of mankind seeking to manipulate creation itself, redefining natural boundaries in the name of innovation, profit, and control. As technology advances faster than wisdom, discernment has never been more necessary.
