Israel’s security establishment is once again sounding the alarm about the possibility of a surprise attack reminiscent of the October 7 massacre. According to reports, newly appointed Shin Bet chief David Zini has directed the agency to prioritize preparations for a potential assault on the southern resort city of Eilat. Zini reportedly views the city as a strategic weak point due to its geographic isolation and has warned of scenarios involving infiltration from neighboring land borders or even a maritime invasion from the Red Sea.
The warning comes amid growing regional instability and ongoing threats from Iranian-backed proxy groups operating throughout the Middle East. Eilat sits near the borders of Jordan, Egypt, and the Red Sea shipping lanes, making it uniquely vulnerable to unconventional attacks. Reports indicate that intelligence units have been instructed to focus on the possibility of a coordinated assault, though some members of Israel’s security establishment reportedly question whether there is currently specific intelligence pointing to an imminent threat. Nevertheless, the scars of October 7 remain fresh, and Israeli leaders appear determined not to be caught off guard a second time.
