Months after the world briefly turned its attention to the massacre of Alawites in Syria, disturbing new reports reveal that violence and abductions continue under the radar. Despite superficial condemnations from international powers, little has been done to stop the atrocities allegedly perpetrated by the Islamist regime of Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad al-Julani). Backed by warm receptions from leaders in the U.S., France, and the Arab world, al-Sharaa's government has unleashed a renewed wave of terror, particularly targeting minorities in western Syria. Testimonies gathered from Alawites paint a grim picture of daily life marked by fear, poverty, and bloodshed—conditions that have only worsened since the lifting of U.S. sanctions announced by President Trump.
One survivor, who found temporary refuge at the Russian-controlled Hmeimim Airbase, described a climate of lawlessness and horror in which Alawites risk abduction or murder just for leaving home. The regime, he claimed, has refined its methods—now operating in silence, without cameras, to avoid international scrutiny. Women and girls are being taken, children are disappearing, and communities are being devastated while the world remains largely indifferent. Meanwhile, public statements from al-Sharaa about peace and anti-terrorism are contradicted by brutal crackdowns on anyone not aligned with the Sunni majority. The testimonies call out the hypocrisy of Western engagement with the regime and plead for recognition, support, and protection—particularly from Israel, which some Alawites see as their only potential ally in a region drowning in extremism and betrayal.
Stay Awake. Keep Watch.
