Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

The modern home is rapidly becoming a hub of constant digital surveillance. From smart TVs that monitor viewing habits to smartphones powered by artificial intelligence, many everyday devices now collect vast amounts of personal data. Technologies such as Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) quietly capture snapshots of what users watch, track channel changes, and analyze viewing duration, sending detailed information back to advertisers and analytics companies. What appears to be harmless convenience often masks a sophisticated data-collection ecosystem operating largely outside the awareness of most users.
Smartphones and streaming platforms are also increasingly driven by AI algorithms designed to maximize engagement rather than serve the user’s true interests. Recommendation systems shape what people watch, read, and interact with, subtly guiding behavior toward content that increases screen time and advertising revenue. Meanwhile, the next wave of technology is already emerging—autonomous AI agents capable of acting on behalf of users across emails, files, calendars, and cloud systems. Security experts warn that these non-human digital identities may soon outnumber human users within many networks, raising serious questions about control, privacy, and oversight.
