A national leader of the Democratic Socialists of America is drawing fierce criticism after openly advocating for the replacement of Israel with a Palestinian state. During an interview with The New Yorker Radio Hour, DSA national co-chair Megan Romer said she supports one democratic Palestinian state encompassing the territory that currently includes Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza rather than preserving Israel as a Jewish state. Romer also defended the Palestinian "right to resist" and said she would have participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration held on October 8, 2023—just one day after Hamas terrorists carried out the deadliest attack against Jews since the Holocaust. The comments are consistent with the DSA's increasingly anti-Zionist posture; its recently released national program backs Palestinian resistance, calls for ending U.S. military and economic support for Israel, and supports Palestinian national sovereignty.
