Solar Flares & Quakes: Signs of the Times?

Mar 7, 2025

Scientists have uncovered a startling link between solar activity and earthquakes. A new study out of Japan found that high solar activity (sunspots and solar flares) correlates with more seismic activity on Earth. Essentially, when the Sun sends extra heat and energy our way, it can subtly stress the earth’s crust (through temperature and pressure changes), making quakes more likely. This discovery is huge in a prophetic context: Jesus mentioned “great earthquakes in various places” and “signs in the sun” as signs of the end times (Luke 21:11, 25). Now we see science catching up to prophecy, as even the secular world observes that the “giant ball of fire” above is affecting the ground beneath our feet in apocalyptic ways.

Recent events bear this out. The Sun is currently in its most active phase in decades, peppering us with solar flares. In one dramatic example, after a major X-class flare erupted in late February, California was shaken by a swarm of seven earthquakes within 24 hours. While correlation isn’t absolute causation, researchers noted a “very strong correlation” between Earth’s surface temperatures (driven by solar activity) and quake frequency. It’s as if the heavens and earth are working in tandem to get our attention.

None of this is mere coincidence. The convergence of solar turmoil and earthly quaking screams prophetic significance. The book of Revelation speaks of cosmic disturbances and a great earthquake as precursors to the Day of the Lord (Revelation 6:12). We might very well be experiencing the early tremors of that reality. This scientific link has “huge implications” indeed. It suggests that as we see the Sun growing more erratic and the earthquakes multiplying, we are living in what the article calls “apocalyptic times”. Rather than fear, those who trust the Bible can find confidence: these signs mean redemption draws near (Luke 21:28). It’s a call to be alert, to help others make sense of the chaos, and to offer the hope of the Gospel while there’s time. READ MORE
