Sudan Christians: Starve or Renounce Christ

Sep 17, 2025

Sudan’s civil war has created a nightmare scenario for the nation’s two million Christians. Already one of the most dangerous places on earth for believers, the conflict between Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has only intensified persecution. Reports from Open Doors reveal staggering numbers: more than 150,000 Christians killed, and up to 15 million displaced in what is now the world’s largest displacement crisis. Local extremists exploit the chaos, denying Christians food aid unless they renounce Christ. Many are left starving, with churches scattered and believers forced into hiding.

Testimonies from inside Sudan paint a chilling picture. A senior church leader, speaking anonymously for fear of reprisal, confirmed that Christians in cities like El Fasher are under siege, surviving on animal feed and grass while cut off from medicine and basic supplies. Both warring factions have brutalized believers—burning churches, detaining Christians, and enforcing bans on even home prayer gatherings. The RSF, descended from the infamous Janjaweed militias of Darfur’s ethnic cleansing campaigns, continues its vow to eradicate Christianity by force or conversion. Sudan’s Christians, caught in the crossfire of war and extremism, cry out for mercy as the world looks away.
