Support for Israel Collapses Among Youth

Mar 17, 2026

A new national poll suggests that public opinion toward Israel is shifting dramatically among younger Americans. According to an NBC News survey of 1,000 registered voters conducted in late February and early March, only 13% of Americans aged 18–34 now view Israel positively, while 63% hold a negative opinion. The numbers represent a steep decline from 2023, when support among younger voters was significantly higher following Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel.

The shift is being described by analysts as a “sea change” in attitudes toward the Jewish state. While support for Israel has declined across most age groups, the drop among younger voters is the most dramatic. The poll also found that negative views of Israel are especially pronounced among Democrats and independents, reflecting a broader cultural and political shift taking place within the United States. Even among older Americans—traditionally more supportive of Israel—positive views have declined compared to previous polling.
