Survey: Less Than Half of Americans Believe in God

Mar 17, 2025

A new survey by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University has revealed that 60% of Americans do not believe in God or that He has an active role in their lives. Even among self-identified Christians, nearly half (47%) expressed doubts about God's existence or influence. This data signals a continuing decline in religious belief in the U.S., reflecting a nation that is becoming increasingly secular.

Researcher George Barna, who led the study, emphasized that this crisis is not political or economic but fundamentally spiritual. He warned that the erosion of belief in God has led to a reconfiguration of faith, where people mold God into their own image rather than aligning themselves with biblical truth. Among those who still affirm God’s existence, only 20% claim to have a deep, interactive relationship with Him, highlighting a crisis of true faith even among professing believers.

This widespread unbelief aligns with 2 Thessalonians 2:3, which speaks of a "great falling away" before the return of Christ. Romans 1:21-25 describes a generation that, despite knowing God, rejects Him in favor of their own desires. The declining faith in America is not merely a cultural shift but a fulfillment of Bible prophecy, warning of a society increasingly turning away from its Creator. READ MORE
