A synagogue and its nursery school in Golders Green, north London, were desecrated with excrement Thursday morning, marking the eighth antisemitic incident in the area in just over a week. Shomrim North West London, a Jewish neighborhood watch group, condemned the act as “vile, deliberate, and premeditated,” warning that the repeated attacks have left the Jewish community “anxious, hurt, and increasingly worried.” Local police have launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence, and believe one suspect is likely behind all the offenses, which are being treated as religiously motivated.

This string of attacks comes on the heels of a large march in London against antisemitism, highlighting a growing crisis for the UK’s Jewish population since the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre in Israel. The Community Security Trust (CST) and the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) condemned the wave of hate crimes, urging swift action to protect the community. CST reported 1,521 antisemitic incidents in the UK between January and June of this year—making it the second-highest half-year on record. Despite being a decrease from 2023’s record-setting surge, the numbers remain alarmingly high, underscoring the ongoing threat Jewish communities face across Britain.
