Taiwan Cites Israel as Biblical Defense Model

Oct 29, 2025

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te drew from Scripture this week, invoking the story of David versus Goliath to describe his nation’s resolve against growing threats from China. Speaking at an AIPAC dinner in Taipei, Lai said Israel’s resilience and faith serve as a “valuable model” for Taiwan as it strengthens its defenses and international partnerships. “The Taiwanese people often look to the example of the Jewish people when facing challenges to our sovereignty,” he said, emphasizing that appeasement only empowers authoritarian regimes. Lai praised Israel’s “determination and capacity to defend its territory,” comparing it to Taiwan’s own need to stand against coercion.

Lai announced that Taiwan’s new “T-Dome” air defense system was inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome and America’s “Golden Dome,” calling for greater trilateral cooperation among the U.S., Israel, and Taiwan to preserve regional peace. His remarks come amid escalating Chinese military pressure and Beijing’s close alignment with pro-Palestinian movements. Prophetically, this convergence reflects the growing global divide between nations that stand for freedom and those advancing authoritarian control. Just as the shepherd David faced an overwhelming giant, Taiwan’s defiance against the world’s most powerful communist regime underscores a timeless biblical truth: the battle belongs to the Lord.
