Several major tech companies—including Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, Meta, and Amazon—are facing mounting pressure to sever ties with Israel due to "allegations" that AI and cloud technologies are being misused in the Gaza conflict. Anti-Israel activists, including some investors and employees, argue that continued cooperation could damage corporate reputations. Bloomberg recently reported that around 60 Microsoft shareholders controlling $80 million in stock have urged the company to examine whether its AI tools are being misapplied. The tension escalated in May when Microsoft fired two engineers who disrupted the company’s anniversary event by protesting its involvement with Israel, calling attention to its Azure cloud platform.

While Microsoft acknowledged providing limited emergency support to help rescue hostages following Hamas’ October 7th attacks, the company denied any misuse of its technology. Despite accusations by the UN’s Francesca Albanese—who has a history of antisemitic remarks—claiming companies like Microsoft and Amazon are complicit in genocide, U.S. officials like Secretary of State Marco Rubio have denounced her rhetoric and imposed sanctions. Tech leaders such as Google co-founder Sergey Brin have cautioned against citing such sources, noting the offensive nature of misusing terms like "genocide." Analysts remain skeptical that these boycott efforts will gain traction, as past campaigns have failed to sway key players in the industry or hinder Israel’s robust tech sector.
