Telepathy Tapes Raise Spiritual Red Flags

Aug 15, 2025

“The Telepathy Tapes,” a viral podcast-turned-documentary project, claims that non-verbal autistic children can communicate telepathically—a premise that former psychic-turned-evangelist Jenn Nizza warns carries deep spiritual risks for Christians. In a recent episode of her podcast Ex-Psychic Saved, Nizza joined biblical counselor Mark Baker and ex–New Age teacher Doreen Virtue to weigh in on the show’s explosive popularity and its troubling spiritual undertones. While creator Ky Dickens presents the project as a celebration of unexplored human potential, the guests cautioned that, when measured against Scripture, the concept veers into territory long associated with divination and demonic influence. They pointed out that alleged “mind reading” is not a divine gift, but often the work of familiar spirits who have observed human lives for centuries.

Drawing on passages like 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and 1 John 4:1, Baker urged believers to “test the spirits” and remain wary of supernatural claims that bypass God’s boundaries. Virtue shared the testimony of a Christian mother of two non-verbal autistic daughters who rejected any suggestion of telepathy, crediting her children’s communication abilities to learned skill, not mystical transmission. The panel noted that “The Telepathy Tapes” includes references to communication with the dead, out-of-body travel, and “downloads” of special knowledge—practices Scripture warns against in Deuteronomy 13 and Revelation 16:14. Beneath the emotional appeal and cultural buzz, they argued, lies a spiritual hook designed to open the door to deception.
