Terror Strikes Synagogue and ODU

Mar 13, 2026

Two violent attacks occurring hundreds of miles apart have shaken communities across the United States and renewed concerns about rising extremism. In Virginia, a deadly shooting at Old Dominion University left one person dead and two others injured before the attacker—identified as a veteran with a history of supporting ISIS—was stopped by ROTC students who intervened and ultimately subdued him. Authorities are investigating the attack as an act of terrorism, underscoring the continued threat posed by radicalized individuals operating within the country.

Only hours later, another disturbing incident unfolded in Michigan when a vehicle rammed into Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township. According to federal officials, the attack specifically targeted the Jewish community. The synagogue had already been on heightened alert due to concerns about possible violence in recent weeks. After crashing into the building, the suspect—identified as a U.S. citizen born in Lebanon—ignited a blaze as the structure erupted into flames. The back-to-back attacks have left many Americans questioning the safety of institutions once considered places of refuge, including houses of worship and schools.
