Texas Students Taken to Mosque

Aug 14, 2026

A school-day field trip involving more than 30 students from Kingwood and Atascocita high schools in Humble ISD has ignited controversy after the teenagers visited Centro Islámico, a Spanish-speaking Islamic center in the Houston area. The students toured the mosque, ate lunch from halal food trucks, observed the midday Islamic prayer, listened to presentations about Islam, and were reportedly offered scarves during the visit. A representative from CAIR Houston also spoke about the rights of Muslim students and their allies. Video released by the Islamic center celebrated the opportunity to introduce young visitors to Islam and challenge what organizers viewed as misconceptions and stereotypes about Muslims. Importantly, the trip was optional, involved members of student-initiated religious clubs, and required parental permission—it was not a mandatory excursion for the general student body.
