The Spiritual Battle for God’s City

Mar 7, 2025

Jerusalem is increasingly the focal point of global hostility, which we see as a direct “battle against God.” An insightful article notes how Jerusalem has become a prime target, not just in geopolitics, but in a spiritual conflict. The world’s fixation on this relatively small city defies normal logic; it makes sense only when we recognize Jerusalem’s biblical significance. Scripture calls Jerusalem the city where God placed His Name (2 Chronicles 6:6), so it’s no surprise that forces opposed to God put Jerusalem in their crosshairs. Modern headlines – from UN resolutions denying Jewish ties to the Temple Mount, to terror groups and nations uniting against Israel’s claim to the Holy City – echo ancient prophecies that “all who burden themselves with Jerusalem will be cut to pieces” (Zechariah 12:3).

The article explains that this isn’t merely political; it’s spiritual warfare. Satan has long attempted to thwart God’s plans, and Jerusalem is central to those plans – past, present, and future. Here Jesus was crucified and rose; here He will return to reign. Thus, every spiritual force that “rages against the Lord and His Anointed” (Psalm 2:2) makes Jerusalem a prime target. We see this manifested in rising antisemitism, jihadist fervor to “liberate” Jerusalem, and even secular disdain toward Israel’s claims. Culturally, there’s a growing narrative painting Israel as an aggressor in its own capital, flipping morality on its head. Much like ancient times when prophets like Isaiah saw people calling evil good, today hatred for Israel is couched as “justice.”

We are called to stand on God’s side in this conflict – to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), support the Jewish people’s rights, and recognize that ultimately this is God’s fight. In the end, Christ will return to Jerusalem, vindicate His city, and win this battle once and for all (it's already won). Until then, the crosshairs remain on Jerusalem, and the faithful watch expectantly. READ MORE
