Tokenizing Everything: Ownership Ends

Feb 4, 2026

Asset tokenization is being pitched as the next great leap forward in finance, but beneath the buzzwords lies a far more sweeping transformation. By converting real-world assets into programmable digital tokens—homes, savings, commodities, and increasingly biometrics and personal data—institutions are building a system where ownership is abstracted into permissioned access. Champions like Larry Fink of BlackRock frame this as democratization and efficiency, yet the structure reveals something else: control remains centralized with issuers and custodians, while individuals hold revocable claims governed by code, compliance rules, and constant surveillance.

What makes this shift unprecedented is programmability. Tokenized assets are not passive records; they are conditional instruments that can be frozen, restricted, or revoked in real time. When combined with emerging regulatory frameworks for stablecoins and digital assets, this system moves beyond markets into daily life. Housing, transportation, utilities, and even access to services can be mediated through tokens that respond instantly to policy decisions or algorithmic risk scores. What once required courts and due process can now be enforced automatically at the protocol level, turning participation in society into a managed, always-on transaction.

This trajectory carries deep prophetic significance because Scripture warns of a future system in which buying and selling are contingent upon submission to centralized authority (Revelation 13). Tokenization provides the technical backbone for such a regime—where control is exercised not by brute force alone, but by permissions embedded into the fabric of economic life. As digital, physical, and biological systems converge—echoing visions promoted by the World Economic Forum—the move from true ownership to conditional access mirrors the Bible’s description of an end-times economy that rewards compliance and punishes dissent.
