Tragedy at LDS Church: Mormonism ≠ Christianity

Sep 30, 2025

The violent attack on the LDS church in Grand Blanc Township is a heartbreaking tragedy that should have never happened. Lives were lost, families shattered, and a community devastated. As with any act of violence, Christians should grieve alongside the victims and pray for comfort, healing, and justice. Yet in the aftermath, the rhetoric surrounding this event is equally troubling. Political leaders and media outlets have rushed to frame the incident as a direct assault on Christianity itself, in the same way incidents involving the Catholic Church are often painted as attacks on Christians at large. This broad-brush narrative is misleading and dangerous, obscuring both truth and discernment in moments when clarity is most needed.

It is important to state plainly: Mormonism is not biblical Christianity. The doctrines of the LDS church stand in sharp contrast to the gospel of Jesus Christ, making it a cult rather than a branch of Christianity. While the loss of human life is tragic and should move us to compassion and prayer, Christians must also resist attempts to fold Mormonism into the true Church. To remain silent in moments like this is to blur the line between biblical faith and counterfeit religion. Believers must grieve the tragedy without compromising the truth, standing firm in both compassion and conviction.
