President Donald Trump has sharply rejected growing warnings about catastrophic artificial intelligence risks, calling the idea of AI “taking over the World, destroying Humanity” a “HOAX” and alleging a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and the massive data centers required to power it. Trump argues that the United States already possesses regulatory and criminal tools capable of dealing with companies that misuse AI and has repeatedly framed technological leadership as a strategic competition with China. His comments come as some of the most prominent figures in artificial intelligence—including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and xAI’s Elon Musk—have expressed support for slowing or more carefully pacing the development of the most advanced frontier models. Trump’s position is essentially the opposite: America cannot afford to surrender its technological lead because, as he has repeatedly put it, “whoever wins AI wins.”
