Reports are surfacing that President Donald Trump is seriously considering a plan that could make Venezuela a permanent part of the United States following the removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro earlier this year. According to the report, the Trump administration has already been overseeing portions of Venezuela’s oil sector during the country’s transitional period, with oil exports surging past one million barrels per day for the first time since 2018. Administration officials have reportedly been meeting with major American energy companies in an effort to revitalize Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, while Trump himself has openly highlighted the nation’s estimated $40 trillion in oil reserves as a key strategic interest.

The proposal comes amid dramatic geopolitical changes in South America following Maduro’s capture on narco-terrorism charges and renewed U.S. influence inside Venezuela. Trump previously hinted at the possibility of Venezuelan statehood in social media posts, even referring to the nation as a potential “51st state.” While officials acknowledged such a move would require approval from both Congress and Venezuela itself, the discussions reveal just how central energy security and global resource control have become in the modern geopolitical landscape. American companies expelled decades ago under Hugo Chávez are now being encouraged to return as the White House pushes to stabilize the country economically through oil production and infrastructure management.
