Turkey has unveiled what it describes as its first intercontinental ballistic missile, marking a major escalation in the country’s military ambitions and signaling a new phase in the regional arms race. The missile was presented during the Istanbul Defense and Aerospace Exhibition and reportedly features hypersonic capabilities with a range of up to 6,000 kilometers. According to Turkish officials, the missile can reach speeds as high as Mach 25 and is capable of striking targets across Europe and the Middle East, including Israel.

The announcement reflects Turkey’s growing push to establish itself as a dominant military and geopolitical power under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Already known for its expanding drone program, Ankara is now pursuing more advanced strategic weapons while simultaneously deepening diplomatic and security ties with nations such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. Turkey has also increased its involvement in issues surrounding Gaza and the broader Palestinian arena, further positioning itself as a major regional actor.
