Palantir’s growing influence in the United Kingdom is raising alarms as the American data analytics giant expands deeper into some of the nation’s most sensitive institutions. The company now reportedly holds around £600 million in public contracts involving the NHS, Ministry of Defence, local councils, and policing. At the same time, public backlash is increasing, with petitions calling for ministers to cut ties with the firm drawing more than 229,000 signatures. What was once seen as a procurement issue is now becoming a national debate over sovereignty, privacy, and control.

The largest contract centers on the NHS Federated Data Platform, a £330 million project designed to improve health system efficiency through integrated data. New reports also indicate that London’s Metropolitan Police has discussed using Palantir AI tools to automate intelligence analysis in criminal investigations. Critics argue this means one private company is simultaneously embedding itself in health care, defense, and law enforcement—the very pillars of public life. Former and current employees have also reportedly questioned the company’s moral direction, citing concerns over surveillance, immigration enforcement, and military applications.

Palantir’s own leadership has intensified concerns through recent public statements promoting stronger ties between Silicon Valley, the military, and AI-driven strategic power. Lawmakers in Britain have compared the company’s rhetoric to authoritarian visions of the future. The deeper issue is not one corporation, but the steady construction of systems capable of tracking, integrating, analyzing, and directing nearly every area of life. When governments increasingly rely on centralized technology for health, borders, policing, and security, the world moves closer to the kind of infrastructure once thought impossible—yet now assembled piece by piece in plain sight.
