Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Reports from the UK are raising concerns among Jewish patients after antisemitic sentiment surfaced in two separate hospital incidents. At University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), a patient discovered posters on display accusing Israel of “starving and killing Palestinians in Gaza” and calling Zionism “poison.” The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told UK Lawyers for Israel that she felt unsafe seeking care while visibly Jewish, even considering removing her Star of David necklace before visits out of fear of hostility or neglect. She said being surrounded by such messaging during a vulnerable time as a patient was “so scary.”
Following the outcry, UCLH chief executive David Probert issued a public apology to UKLFI on Sunday, promising corrective action. “I would like to apologize on behalf of UCLH for the distress and upset caused by these posters,” Probert said. He emphasized the Trust’s commitment to inclusivity, pledging that all patients should feel safe regardless of background. Yet, the incident underscores growing unease that anti-Israel rhetoric within healthcare spaces may blur into antisemitism, leaving Jewish patients fearful of discrimination in settings meant to protect life and health.
