A sobering new survey from Campaign Against Antisemitism reveals the depth of fear gripping Britain’s Jewish community since October 7, 2023. An overwhelming 96% of British Jews say they feel less safe than before that date, while 98% believe antisemitism has increased nationwide. Nearly six in ten now avoid displaying visible signs of their Jewish identity, and 45% say they no longer feel welcome in their own country. Even more alarming, a majority—51%—do not see a long-term future for themselves in the United Kingdom, signaling a profound erosion of confidence in British society.
The survey paints a grim picture of institutional failure. Only 14% of respondents believe police are doing enough to protect Jewish communities, and just 10% think reporting antisemitic crimes will lead to prosecution—even when evidence exists. Nearly all respondents view Islamist extremism as a serious threat, while nine in ten say authorities are failing to confront both religious and political extremism. With 80% judging the current government as bad for the Jewish community and 89% identifying anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism, the findings underscore a growing sense that Britain’s Jews are being abandoned at a time of escalating hostility and violence.
