UN Digital ID: A Prelude to Global Surveillance?

The United Nations is promoting a digital identity framework aimed at providing universal legal identification, particularly for the estimated 1.1 billion people worldwide without official IDs. Proponents argue that such digital IDs could enhance economic growth by improving access to services and streamlining transactions. The UN's "Pact for the Future," adopted by 193 nations in September 2024, emphasizes the integration of biometric digital IDs as part of sustainable development and technological progress.​


However, this initiative has raised significant privacy concerns. Critics warn that digital ID systems, especially those incorporating biometric data like fingerprints or iris scans, could lead to data breaches, profiling, and increased surveillance. Past implementations, such as Kenya's Huduma Namba digital ID scheme, faced legal challenges over privacy violations. Additionally, the centralization of personal data in digital formats may heighten the risk of hacking and unauthorized access, potentially undermining individual freedoms.​


The move toward a universal digital identification system resonates with prophetic themes of the mark of the beast (Rev. 13:16-17).
