UNSC Condemns Doha Strike

Sep 12, 2025

The UN Security Council issued a rare joint statement on Tuesday, condemning the September 9 strike in Doha while carefully avoiding any direct mention of Israel. The resolution, which required consensus from all 15 members—including the United States—expressed “deep regret” over civilian deaths and affirmed solidarity with Qatar, stressing the importance of respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity under the UN Charter.

Diplomats emphasized Qatar’s vital role as a mediator in the ongoing conflict, alongside Egypt and the United States, underscoring that its efforts remain essential for easing hostilities and fostering political dialogue. The council reiterated the urgent need to prioritize hostage releases and humanitarian relief in Gaza, urging all parties to seize what they called a “window of opportunity” for peace through ongoing mediation led by regional and international partners.
