Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated once again over the weekend as U.S. Central Command announced a series of what it described as "self-defense strikes" against Iranian military targets. According to CENTCOM, American forces targeted radar installations, drone command centers, air defense systems, and attack drones in southern Iran after Tehran allegedly shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone operating over international waters. The strikes focused on locations near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a region that remains one of the world's most important energy and shipping corridors.
The latest military action comes despite ongoing negotiations aimed at securing a broader agreement between Washington and Tehran. CENTCOM emphasized that the strikes were measured responses to Iranian aggression and stated that American forces would continue protecting U.S. assets and commercial shipping in the region. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Kuwait activated its air defenses to intercept incoming drones and missiles, underscoring growing concerns that the conflict could spread beyond Iran and Israel into neighboring Gulf states. At the same time, the United States continues enforcing maritime restrictions against Iran, including actions against vessels attempting to reach Iranian ports.
