While visiting Washington, D.C., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined U.S. officials on Tuesday to sign a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU) that aims to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Israel on energy and artificial intelligence (AI). The ceremony, held at Blair House, marked a strategic partnership to harness innovation in both fields. “The future belongs to those who innovate,” Netanyahu said, emphasizing the potential of AI to bring both profound challenges and remarkable breakthroughs. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted that the agreement enables both nations to combine their technological and research strengths to stay at the forefront of AI development and energy leadership.

Both Netanyahu and President Donald Trump have placed AI at the center of their national strategies. Netanyahu previously pledged to elevate Israel into the top three AI powers globally, and in a UN address, he urged world leaders to collaborate in ensuring AI becomes a force for good. Meanwhile, on his first full day as the 47th President, Trump announced an ambitious $500 billion initiative to develop the infrastructure necessary for artificial superintelligence. He cited the urgency of the project and said emergency declarations would be used to expedite progress. At a press conference, major tech leaders including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son, and Oracle’s Larry Ellison echoed the transformative vision, with Son predicting that superintelligent AI could solve humanity’s most complex problems.
