According to reports, U.S. Central Command carried out what it described as “self-defense” strikes after Iranian missiles, drones, and attack boats targeted American Navy destroyers transiting the region. Iran accused the United States of violating the truce by striking ships and coastal areas near Qeshm Island and Bandar Khamir, while Iranian forces claimed to have retaliated against American vessels operating near the Gulf of Oman. Despite the escalation, President Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire remained “in effect,” while simultaneously warning Tehran that more devastating strikes would follow if Iran refused to finalize a deal with Washington.

The confrontation unfolded against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump attempted to downplay the incident, calling it “just a love tap,” but his rhetoric quickly shifted online, where he blasted Iran’s leadership as “LUNATICS” and warned they would be hit “a lot harder” if they failed to comply with American demands. Meanwhile, the UAE announced that its air defenses were intercepting Iranian missiles and drones, further signaling how rapidly the conflict threatens to spill across the region. While both sides publicly claimed they did not seek escalation, the exchange demonstrated just how unstable the ceasefire truly remains.
