Keep Watch!
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Millions of Americans were given a sobering reminder this week of how dependent modern life has become on invisible digital infrastructure. A major Verizon outage knocked out voice calls and mobile data across large parts of the country, leaving phones displaying nothing but the ominous “SOS” signal. With emergency calls, banking apps, navigation, and communication all tied to cellular networks, entire cities were momentarily pushed into a kind of digital paralysis as users waited for systems to come back online.
What made the outage even more unsettling was the silence surrounding it. Verizon offered little explanation, and even the company’s own status page buckled under the surge of panicked users trying to find answers. With nearly 200,000 reports logged on Downdetector, the real number of affected customers likely reached well into the millions. Whether caused by technical failure or something else, the result was the same: a single point of failure was enough to disconnect vast swaths of the population in minutes.
This event is a glimpse of how easily a future control system could be enforced. Revelation 13 describes a world where participation in society—buying, selling, communicating—can be restricted at will. That requires centralized, fragile networks like the ones we now depend on. When a single outage can silence millions, it becomes clear how quickly access could be granted or revoked in a future global system. This wasn’t the Beast system—but it shows how ready the infrastructure already is.
