We Are Not Ready for AGI

Mar 24, 2025

A well-known transhumanist, Eliezer Yudkowsky, is sounding the alarm over the rapid progression toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Speaking at SXSW, Yudkowsky, who is a firm believer in merging man with machine, issued a surprising warning: humanity is not prepared for the consequences of AGI. He emphasized that AGI (AI that can think, learn, and reason like a human) poses serious dangers if unleashed without adequate understanding or safeguards.

Yudkowsky’s statements mark a notable departure from his usual optimism. A staunch supporter of technological singularity and life extension, he acknowledged that the race to create AGI could result in "extinction-level consequences" if ethical and moral frameworks are not established first. His message was clear: “We must stop everything. We are not ready.” He called on governments and tech companies to place a moratorium on advanced AGI development until sufficient philosophical, spiritual, and moral guidance is in place.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence—and the desire to transcend human limitations—mirrors the Tower of Babel mindset (Genesis 11), where mankind seeks to reach the heavens and become godlike. Revelation also speaks of a future image that speaks and has power (Revelation 13:15), suggesting the rise of lifelike AI within a beast system. This technology may not only be a tool, it could become an idol, used for deception, control, and even worship in a future global regime. READ MORE
