Workplace Antisemitism Surges

A congressional hearing this week sounded the alarm over what lawmakers described as a rapidly worsening rise of antisemitism in American workplaces, particularly within the healthcare industry. During testimony before the House Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee, chaired by Rick Allen, witnesses detailed accusations of discrimination, intimidation, and anti-Israel activism targeting Jewish healthcare workers. Allen warned that hatred toward Jewish people has intensified significantly over the past nine months, saying Jewish employees across America continue to face growing hostility, harassment, and political discrimination in professional environments once expected to remain neutral.

One of the most striking testimonies came from Dr. Jacob Agronin, a cardiology fellow at Temple University Hospital, who accused his union — the Committee of Interns and Residents — of openly advancing anti-Israel political positions while forcing Jewish and Israeli-affiliated members to financially support those efforts through mandatory dues. Agronin claimed the union formally supported policies that would exclude Israeli physicians from employment opportunities and described the organization as increasingly obsessed with promoting one-sided political activism surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict following the October 7 attacks. Lawmakers and witnesses argued that unions and institutions meant to protect workers are instead becoming vehicles for ideological discrimination against Jewish professionals.
