Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

The cultural battle over life has entered yet another judicial phase. This week, the Wyoming Supreme Court struck down the nation’s first abortion pill ban, ruling that abortion will remain legal in the state despite legislative efforts to protect unborn life. In a 4–1 decision, the court invalidated Wyoming’s 2023 Life is a Human Right Act, declaring that the state failed to meet constitutional standards when restricting abortion—even after the fall of Roe v. Wade. Once again, the courtroom has become the frontline where moral absolutes are weighed against personal autonomy.
The justices sided with abortion advocacy groups and plaintiffs who argued that adults possess a constitutional right to make their own healthcare decisions, framing abortion as a matter of individual liberty rather than the taking of human life. Applying a “strict scrutiny” standard, the court concluded that Wyoming did not prove its law was the least restrictive means of protecting prenatal life. In effect, the unborn child was rendered legally invisible, while the so-called right to terminate a pregnancy was elevated above the state’s interest in preserving life. This ruling underscores a broader reality: even when legislatures act, courts increasingly serve as guardians of a death-affirming ethic.
This decision reflects the accelerating moral decay Scripture warned would characterize the last days. Isaiah declared, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20), a description that fits a society redefining life as disposable and convenience as a virtue. Abortion—especially chemical abortion carried out in secrecy—aligns with a culture of death that devalues human life made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). As conscience is overridden by autonomy and truth is subordinated to feelings, the groundwork is laid for greater deception and lawlessness (2 Timothy 3:1–5). For watchmen paying attention, rulings like this are not isolated legal setbacks—they are prophetic indicators of a nation drifting further from God’s moral order.
