Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a sharp warning to Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi on Friday after a fresh wave of attacks against Israel. Katz declared, “Your time will come,” vowing that the Houthi leader would ultimately meet the same fate as others in what he called the “axis of evil.” He added that the Houthis’ notorious slogan, “Death to Israel, curse upon the Jews,” would one day be replaced by the sight of the Israeli flag “flying over the capital of a united Yemen.” His remarks followed multiple incidents Thursday, including a Houthi drone crash near a hotel in Eilat, a ballistic missile launch toward central Israel and Jerusalem, and two additional drone interceptions—all part of a broader Iran-backed campaign. Since March 18, the Houthis have launched nearly 90 ballistic missiles and at least 40 drones at Israel.

In response, the IDF has struck Houthi targets in Yemen, including the strategic port of Hodeidah, which Israel says is used by Tehran to funnel weapons to its proxy militia. Tensions have been rising steadily since late August, when an Israeli strike killed the Houthi government’s prime minister and several ministers. Meanwhile, the U.S. has tightened sanctions on Houthi operations, particularly targeting maritime smuggling routes that fund their attacks. Katz’s fiery statement signals that Israel is prepared to intensify its operations against the Houthis, framing the group’s aggression as part of Iran’s wider regional strategy to destabilize and threaten Israel and its allies.
